IC Solutions: They Are Gutless

It is a shame that we live in a world where a company like IC Solutions gets to run wild and not have to pay the piper. They are an inmate prepaid phone company with only one job to do and they do that job very, very poorly. They are supposed to allow inmates to speak to family, friends, and loved ones over the telephone through a prepaid method. IC Solutions might have their money, but there is nothing coming in for the customers on their end or for the inmates. The inmates are the ones that are really, really hoping and praying for this phone call. They are stuck behind bars and it could feel like an awful long time and the days feel endless. There is very little to look forward to and very little to get excited about in this process.

As a matter of fact, they only look forward to the phone call. The phone call gives them a glimmer of hope. It reminds them of what is important and what is waiting for them when they get out of prison. That is why I call IC Solutions gutless. They don’t do what they say they are going to do in the first place, which is allow a phone call to go through for the customer to the inmate. They have friends, family, and maybe their own young child that wants to talk to them. Everyone is scared and confused, but about IC Solutions it is not any of those things. They are simply looking to get their money and they will do whatever it takes to get that money. They will hurt people, harm people, and they will go to any lengths to get as much cash in their accounts as humanely possible without any thoughts for mankind.

Securus Technology Painted a Positive Outlook of Inmate Communication

Securus Technology is one of the leading criminal justice security and inmate communication providers. Securus Technology expects a brighter future for inmates owing to continuous changes in the correction sector. Others stakeholders including corrections and law enforcement agencies, friends, families, and the society also stand to benefit. Some positive changes aimed at improving the incarceration experience include better communication opportunities for inmates, enhanced video calling, increased employment opportunities for inmates, improved health care, allowing inmates to access all products, and availing the products at subsidized prices.

Richard A. Smith is the CEO and Chairman of the company. He acknowledged the positive contributions that communication technology has had in improving the experience in correction facilities over the past decade. He expects that communication will make a significant contribution to law enforcement sector in the next ten years. He reiterated their commitment to continue availing innovative products that will solve criminal problems. The products are also expected to offer a better experience in corrections setting going into the future.

Mr. Richard Smith said that inmates should have full access to monitored communication equipment. An inmate should have access to the company devices or use his or her device to communicate with approved friends or family members when he or she is booked into a correctional facility. There will not be any worry about security because all communications including emails, video, voice, and text are recorded and monitored. Family members or approved individuals should be able to fund the inmates’ accounts through a centralized system virtually. It is important to note that inmates can also access other benefits such as healthcare needs, education resources, bail bondsmen, commissary, and legal resources through the centralized platform. The system allows the inmate to access everything they need. Smith added that the company is almost meeting the goal of making this a reality.

The arrangement that Securus has put in place will ensure that inmates are granted rights to use their mobile devices since they are accustomed to them. Training will not be needed. They will easily access specific phone number using their devices in case they need immediate assistance such as being bailed out. This arrangement would also shorten the time that inmates in short-term facilities get justice. The company will provide the overall monitoring and recording of various communications to ensure that all parties are safe.

The technological setup would allow inmates to use other forms of communications apart from voice. The new arrangement will stimulate them to access safe date, law libraries, video calling, visitation schedules, various forms, entertainment, and religious text. The future projection is that the inmates will continue to enjoy all the benefits at lower costs. “Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigation, corrections and monitoring published today a number of facility customer comments on using technology to solve and prevent crimes including inmate-on-inmate crimes….” (, pg. 1, para. 1 and 2)

This is big news. This is most exciting news as well.

Personal names and information for states, facilities, and counties on the whole has been kept private and fully confidential for the safety of such stated parties. RICHARD A. SMITH, who apparently is the CEO of SECURUS TECHNOLOGIES, mentions just how involved his company is within the entire process. He mentions that SECURUS TECHNOLOGIES INC. works very hard to come up with a new form of technology piece and tool for every week…..specifically for the use of law enforcement in the inmate communications field. Smith mentions that he and his company are doing their best.

Securus Experiences 1.2 Million Job Views Through It’s Securus ConnectUs Inmate Platform

On October 21, 2016, Securus Technologies a civil and criminal justice technology service provider, announced that it’s ConnectUS inmate platform received over 1.2 million job views in between August and September.

The platform was initially launched on August the 22nd. The platform allowed inmates to conduct safe and secure access to approximately 2 million job opportunities through it’s exclusive job search platform. This in itself provided inmates with a wide range of job opportunities which would help them prepare for their release into society.

By deploying this program, it essentially eliminated the need for facilities to escort inmates to a computer location as well as to neglect the need for facilities to monitor the activities of inmates. The platform itself is available through “self-help” devices which can be found throughout certain facilities. The platform also provides activity reports which track the trail of the job seeker’s activity.

The Executive Officer and Chairman of Securus Technologies proclaimed that the early results demonstrated the need for the value they have provided. He also proclaimed that this is another example which demonstrates that Securus leads the way when it comes to providing automation tools to correction facilities, inmates and their friends and family members. In conclusion of his statement he also proclaimed that the company is planning to invest $5 million into various recidivism reduction programs over the span of 3 years at the jails and prisons that they provide service to.

ConnectUs is described as being the most flexible and feature-rich inmate service on the market. The platform gives inmate the opportunity to complete an unlimited about of job applications which have been designated by the facility itself. The platform not only gives inmates the opportunity to access services that were previously unavailable, it also gives facilities the ability to monitor and govern what is available to its inmates.

Securus Gives Free Calls to Inmates in Flooded Louisiana

Securus, a company known for high quality customer service and products, has announced a program to help flood ravaged Louisiana prison systems. In partnership with the Louisiana Department of Corrections, Securus is allowing each inmate one free call per day per inmate to help stay in contact with their families. This program will apply to the prisons impacted by the recent threat of floods and it will last through September 7th.

Securus wants to help the prisons and the families during this tough time, and the cost of alleviating these anxieties is 30,000. They hope this will help the inmates to be less stressed and keep security in place. They are also making a donation of 50,000 to the inmate welfare fund to help with the cost after the natural disaster. They approximate that they will give away 250,000 free calls by the end of the program.

Securus, a top inmate communications and information processing company, is headquartered in Dallas, Texas. They serve 1.2 million inmates across North America. They want to make the world a safer place to live. They strive to ensure high quality of customer service and have even secured a A+ rating with the BBB.

Securus Free Calls to Flood Ravaged Prisons

Staying In Touch With Securus

Securus is a company that jails and prisons use so that inmates can call home. The company understands that it’s important for inmates to be able to stay in touch with family and friends as there is a lower chance at the inmate being back in jail if they have support when they get out. Securus doesn’t have the higher rates that other inmate communications systems offer.

There are several options making phone calls. An account needs to be set up by the person that the inmate calls. When a call is made, rate fees are deducted from the account. There is a prepaid option for those who want to be in control of how much money is on the account. You are never charged for more than what is on the account, and if there isn’t enough money, then the call can’t be completed. Securus offers this option for those who don’t have a lot of money to stay in touch with their loved ones but want to make sure they have a way to talk to them. A direct bill is an option as well. When you set up the account, you can have the rate for each call put on a bill, similar to what you would have with a traditional phone company. This option might get a little expensive, but with the rates that Securus offers, it’s usually much less than the competition.

Inmates’ Families Dealt Blow by the Halting of New Phone Rate Caps in Prison by Court

The court granted a stay to companies that deal in prison phones thereby halting the implementation of the new and lower rate capping on inmate phone calls. The court did not however, halt the new limits that were set on some specific ancillary fees that are related to these calls. This will see the overall rates of inmate calls go down. Securus Technologies and Global Tel*Link (GTL) had gone to the Court of Appeals in Columbia District praying for stay on the regulations on new prices. This stay would be necessary pending the settlement of a lawsuit brought against the FCC by the two companies, a case they have a high likelihood of winning.

The two companies argue that the FCC had acted over its authority by bringing the new limits that fell short of the contractual amount prison phone companies ought to pay as “site commissions” to correctional institutions. The court did not delay the other critical reforms that include the implementation of restrictions and caps on the ancillary fees. These limits were expected to take effect as from March 17 for prisons and June 20 for the jails. The rate caps set by FCC in 2013 remain in place in an interim basis although they only apply for calls that go across the state lines.

The FCC had voted last in 2015 during the month of October on the calling rates applicable for inmates. They had voted for lower rate capping on calls that are interstate as well as proposed new caps for the intrastate calls that take place in a state. It was expected that these new caps would further lower the cost of making calls by almost a half of the current rates per minute. Tom Wheeler, the FCC Chairman, and Mignon Clyburn, Commissioner, who are both democrats regretted the stay but are optimistic the court will uphold their side. (More on this Story here)
